PLEASE NOTE- HIGHWAY CLOSURES: Effective July 12, 2021 until August 2023;
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has closed SC-85 (I-85 Business) from Exit 3 to Exit 4B, Northbound and Southbound, in Spartanburg County. This closure is necessary to replace two (2) bridges that span S-995 (Buffington road)/Norfolk Southern Railroad and S-2 (Howard Street). Due to the nature of the project, performing this work under live traffic is not practical.

There are four (4) detours for this closure, they are as follows: 
  • SC-85 NB (I-85 Business) Northbound will be closed at Exit 3, New Cut Road. Traffic CONTINUING Northbound SC-85 (past Spartanburg) needing to access exits north of Exit 3 will be detoured at Exit 2B using I-26, I-85 and I-585. FOR LOCAL TRAFFIC an additional detour is provided at Exit 3, utilizing New Cut Road, Fairforest Road, and Asheville Highway.
  • SC-85 SB (I-85 Business) Southbound will be closed at Exit 4B, Asheville Highway. Traffic CONTINUING Southbound SC-85 (past Spartanburg) needing to access exits south of Exit 4B will be detoured at Exit 5B using I-585, I-85, and I-26. FOR LOCAL TRAFFIC an additional detour is provided at Exit 4B utilizing Asheville Highway, Fairforest Road, and New Cut Road.

From Greenville, SC Heading up 85 North. 
*These directions also apply to Lyman, Duncan, Welford, Simpsonville, Atlanta, Anderson, Seneca, Clemson, Taylors, and Travelers Rest.  
  • Take 85 North to Exit 69.  Keep right at the fork to continue to I-85 Business/Spartanburg/Freeway Loop. 
  • Proceed 4.6 miles. 
  • Take Exit 5A for I-585 S/US-176/Pine Street toward downtown.   
  • Proceed 0.2 miles. 
  • Keep Left and merge onto I-585 S/US-176 S/Pine Street toward downtown. 
  • Proceed 1.9 miles. 
  • Take a right on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.  You will see Vic Bailey Honda on your right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.   
 
From Charlotte, NC Heading down 85 South 
*These directions also apply to Gastonia, Gaffney, and Blacksburg. 
  • Take 85 South to Exit 77 for Interstate 85 Spartanburg/Freeway Loop. 
  • Proceed 0.8 miles. 
  • Continue on I-85 Business Loop for 3.1 miles. 
  • Take Exit 5A for I-585/US-176 S/Pine St. toward downtown.  
  • Proceed 0.2 miles. 
  • Merge onto I-585/US-176/N Pine St. 
  • Proceed 2.1 miles. 
  • Continue 1.4 miles on N. Pine St to E. Daniel Morgan Avenue 
  • Take a right on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.  You will see Vic Bailey Honda on your right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.   
 
From Asheville, NC Heading East on I-26 
*These directions also apply to Hendersonville, Arden, Flat Rock, Saluda, Mountain Home, Mill Spring, Lake Lure, Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, Fletcher, Mill Spring, and Zirconia.  
  • Take Exit 15 on I-26 E toward Spartanburg-North/Inman. 
  • Proceed 0.2 miles. 
  • Turn right onto US-176 E (signs for Spartanburg) 
  • Proceed 2.9 miles. 
  • Keep left to continue on N. Pine Street. 
  • Proceed 0.7 miles. 
  • Keep right to continue on I 585-S. 
  • Proceed 3.5 miles. 
  • Continue 1.4 miles on N. Pine Street to E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.   
  • Take a right on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.  You will see Vic Bailey Honda on your right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.   
 
From Columbia, SC Heading West on I-26 
*These directions also apply to Newberry, Clinton, Laurens, Lexington, Charleston, Orangeburg, and Mt. Pleasant.   
  • Take Exit 19-B for I-85 N toward Spartanburg. 
  • Proceed 0.3 miles. 
  • Merge onto I-85 Business Loop N. 
  • Proceed 2.5 miles. 
  • Take Exit 5A for I-585 S/US-176 S/Pine Street toward Downtown. 
  • Proceed 0.2 miles. 
  • Keep left and merge onto I-585 S/US-176 E/N Pine Street. 
  • Proceed 1.9 miles. 
  • Continue 1.4 miles on N. Pine Street to E. Daniel Morgan Ave. 
  • Take a right on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.  You will see Vic Bailey Honda on your right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.   
 
From West Gate Mall 
  • Take W. O. Ezell Blvd/West Main Street 2.9 miles to W. St. John Street. 
  • Turn Left onto W. St. John. 
  • Proceed 1.2 miles. 
  • Pass Barnet Park on your Left. 
  • Take an immediate Left onto N. Dean Street. 
  • Follow N. Dean to E. Daniel Morgan Avenue. 
  • You will see Vic Bailey Subaru across the intersection. 
 
From Boiling Springs 
  • Follow Boiling Springs Road to the SC-9/US-176 E ramp. 
  • Keep Left at the Fork to continue on Exit 25B and merge onto I-585 S/SC-9 S/US176 E. 
  • Continue onto SC-9/US-176 E/N. Pine Street. 
  • Take a right on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.  You will see Vic Bailey Honda on your right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.   
 
From Cowpens 
  • Take US-29 S/S Main Street 8 miles into Spartanburg. 
  • Turn Right onto E. St. John Street. 
  • Turn Right onto N. Pine Street. 
  • Turn Left onto E. Daniel Morgan Avenue. 
  • Once you turn, you will see Vic Bailey Honda on your Right. Vic Bailey Subaru is the next block up.  
 
From Union 
  • Take US-176 toward Spartanburg for almost 25 miles.   
  • Turn Left on E. Daniel Morgan Avenue.

  • Follow US 221-N for roughly 17 miles to E. St. John Street.
